About the Role

The successful applicants will undertake the Postgraduate Diploma of Health Science (Ultrasound) through the University of Auckland and be one of 2 student sonographers completing their clinical practice requirements within the ultrasound department. Practical and limited theoretical tuition will be provided, however a large amount of self directed learning is required. 

During this role you are rostered on site 40 hours a week to gain clinical experience in diagnostic medical ultrasound, you will also need to undertake the hours required by the university of Auckland to complete the academic requirements outside of your normal working hours. 

The expected commencement of these roles will be in August 2025.

About the Service

You will work within a team of up to 20 sonographers across the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Waitaha campuses of Christchurch Hospital, Christchurch Women - s Hospital and Burwood Hospital.

You will work closely with Radiologists, Radiology registrars, and a wide variety of clinicians including those in the fetal maternal medicine and emergency departments. You will work closely with our nursing, orderly and administrative colleagues and associated teams. 

You will train to be competent in a full range of diagnostic medical ultrasound examinations with the exception of adult and paediatric echocardiography.

You will have:

  • An appropriate science related qualification to degree level (such as a Bachelor in Medical Imaging, Nursing, Physiotherapy or similar)
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
