Te Whare Waiutuutu Kate Sheppard House, Clyde Road, Ōtautahi Christchurch

Permanent part-time Friday and Sunday totalling 10 hours per week.

 

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is looking for an engaging visitor host for this significant visitor experience and museum - the former home of New Zealand's suffragist leader, Kate Sheppard and campaign hub for the Women's Suffrage Petition.

 

The visitor host assists in all levels of day-to-day operations of the museum including delivering engaging guided tours, day to day enquiries and bookings, assisting with exhibitions and public programmes and delivering events.

 

Our ideal candidate will be passionate about women's history and heritage and will be able to deliver high quality tours to a diverse range of groups of all ages. You will be a strong communicator, with the ability to confidently share Kate Sheppard's life and legacy and the history of the suffrage movement and campaign.

 

Essential:

Experience speaking to large groups

An ability to build on knowledge of the property's history and share it an engaging way

Good level of administrative tasks, including data collection, visitor bookings and merchandise.

A reasonable level of physical fitness to set up/pack down event space and clean spaces.

 

Desirable:

Ability to work unsupervised as part of a close-knit team

Strong organisational skills and efficiency

Retail experience and familiarity with Point of Sale

Experience following best Health and Safety practice  

 

Advantageous:

Understanding of stakeholder engagement and an appreciation of tikanga Māori.

A relevant qualification in the arts, humanities or heritage and/or a working understanding of New Zealand histories.

 

Hourly rate $27.80 per hour.  Hours 10.30am – 4pm Friday and Sunday.

Additional hours of work may be available.
