Job Description

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Ko mātou tēnei | Who we are
Te Komihana Tauhokohoko | The Commerce Commission is New Zealand's competition, fair trading, consumer credit and economic regulatory agency.

We have been confirmed as the economic regulator for the Government's Local Water Done Well (LWDW) system and we're focussed on building our Water team to ensure we have the expertise in-house to deliver on our remit.

We are looking for two experienced managers to lead two teams of professionals to deliver on our commitment for the long-term benefit of all New Zealanders. We have both a permanent opportunity and a 12 month fixed term opportunity, based in either our Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) office or Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) office.

The indicative salary range for this role is $159,951 - $188,178 plus 3% KiwiSaver employer contribution. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects their individual skills, experience, and internal relativities across the organisation.

Mō te tūranga | About the role

To deliver our new role we are drawing on our experience in successfully regulating other sectors and international best practice in water regulation to develop an effective regulatory regime tailored for Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are looking for someone to lead the delivery of the Commission's strategic goals and objectives for water. This is a critical role in the early phases of the establishment of our new function, particularly due to the unique cultural significance of water in New Zealand. The successful candidate will ensure the end-to-end delivery of our regulatory outputs for the economic regulation and consumer protection of water service providers, whilst building constructive relationships with our wide range of stakeholders.

He kōrero mōu | About you

Our people come from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences which together support the fabric of our mahi and contributes to our vision to make New Zealanders better off.

We are open to a wide range of backgrounds or experience, but the ideal candidate will have expertise in most of the following areas and will be able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering the benefits of regulation for all consumers –

  • Excellent people management and leadership of professionals
  • Delivery of complex projects or programmes
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including both internal and external relationships
  • Experience in, or understanding of, economic regulation
  • Knowledge and understanding of te Tiriti, te Ao Māori and te Mana o te wai or a demonstrable desire to actively develop this and to improve the capability of the team

As our organisation flexes and adapts to meet changing priorities and commitments, we are looking for people who are also comfortable with change, able to adapt, and can contribute positively to a one Commission view. Your ability to show your learning agility, open mindedness and curiosity will set you apart from the rest.
